A recent Greenpeace report questionned the safety of Britain's nuclear reactors when computer systems are affected by the "millennium bug" rollover to 2000.
A British-American Security Information Council report, "The Bug in the Bomb", similarly draws attention to the vulnerability of nuclear weapons systems to Y2K failures, and calls for the de-alerting of the world's nuclear arsenals during the critical period.
The Y2K-Nuclear Citizens' Forum will address these issues and provide an opportunity for networking and developing a practical campaign strategy.
The morning session will consist of talks by the invited speakers, followed by Q & A and open discussion. The afternoon session will focus on campaign planning and drafting an appeal to the G8 Y2K Special Contingency Planning Conference in Berlin on September 21st, which will be preceded by a Y2K WASH (World Atomic Safety Holiday) Nuclear Citizens' Forum in Berlin on September 20th.
